Arsenal kick off their Premier League campaign against Manchester United today, aiming to start strongly after rivals Liverpool and Manchester City both opened with wins. Early pressure is already on Mikel Arteta’s side to avoid playing catch-up.
Both sides come into the clash after solid pre-season campaigns, although United remained unbeaten while Arsenal suffered mixed results. The Gunners can, however, take encouragement from their recent record in this fixture. They are unbeaten in their last five Premier League games against United, winning four of those encounters. Ruben Amorim’s side have strengthened wisely this summer, meaning they are expected to provide a stern test at Old Trafford.
In his pre-match press conference, Mikel Arteta delivered updates on key players. Leandro Trossard was the main injury concern alongside Gabriel Jesus, but the Belgian has now returned to training. Speaking on his availability, Arteta told reporters: “I think he’s much better. I think he will be able to train again tomorrow and if that’s the case, he will be fit.”
Arteta also hinted that summer signings Viktor Gyökeres and Martin Zubimendi are in line to start, providing a major boost ahead of this opening fixture.
The main point of focus will be Gyökeres, who looks set to make his competitive debut. Kai Havertz is an alternative option, but Arsenal’s record signing is expected to lead the line. On the left flank, Gabriel Martinelli, Trossard and Noni Madueke are competing for a starting berth, while Myles Lewis-Skelly and Riccardo Calafiori contest the left-back position. On the right side of defence, Jurrien Timber and Ben White are both pushing for inclusion.

What do you think Gooners, will Arsenal make a winning start at Old Trafford or will United hold them to a draw?
