Manchester City return from international duties this weekend with a mouth-watering clash against Liverpool, in a contest that could have big implications on the title race.

It has been two weeks since Manchester City have taken to the pitch, with their last outing coming against runaway Championship leaders Burnley in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup.

The contest at the Etihad Stadium would stay relatively close for the opening half an hour, before Erling Haaland scored a quick-fire brace to put City into a controlling position and enter half-time with a two-goal advantage.

The Norwegian striker would complete his hat-trick minutes into the second-half, with Julian Alvarez then contributing a brace of his own and strike from Cole Palmer taking the full-time scoreline to six goals without reply and booking City’s spot in a Wembley semi-final.

The return of domestic club football brings a high-profile contest in the Premier League between Manchester City and Liverpool, with the visitors coming into the match off the back of a 1-0 loss to Real Madrid in the Champions League Round of 16.

The Merseyside club held the game close in comparison to the 2-5 defeat they suffered in the first-leg, up until the 78th minute when Karim Benzema nailed a short pass from Vinicious Jr. into the back of the net.

A win for Manchester City on Saturday is imperative to keeping their Premier League title hopes alive, and would put them back within five points of challengers Arsenal at the top of the table, pending the Gunners’ result against Leeds United on Saturday afternoon.
