Manchester City return to domestic football action on Saturday evening as they take on runaway Championship leaders Burnley in the FA Cup Quarter-Finals.

In midweek, Pep Guardiola’s side embarked on a Champions League last-16 second-leg showdown with Bundesliga giants RB Leipzig, with the tie held at 1-1 after the first-half of the contest in Germany last month.

While some came into the fixture a little apprehensive, the scoreline would not remain level on aggregate for too long, as Erling Haaland smashed home his first of five goals on the night from the penalty spot on 22 minutes.

Over the span of his five goals on a historic night in European football, the Norwegian striker became Manchester City’s all-time top scorer in a single season, with his 39 goals so far this campaign surpassing Tommy Johnson’s 38-goal haul in 1928/28.

Erling Haaland wasn’t the only player on the scoresheet on Tuesday night, as Ilkay Gundogan and Kevin De Bruyne secured goals of their own past a helpless Janis Blaswich, helping Manchester City advance to the quarter-finals where they are set to take on Bayern Munich.

On the other side of Saturday evening’s ticket sits Burnley, who have been tearing up the Championship under former Manchester City captain and all-round club hero, Vincent Kompany.

In their last outing, the Clarets took down Hull City 1-3 in East Yorkshire courtesy of a sensational Nathan Tella hat-trick, helping solidify his team’s position at the top of the table and running clear of Sheffield United by a 13-point margin.

Manchester City advanced to the quarter-finals of the FA Cup and booked their meeting with Burnley through a 0-3 victory over Bristol City thanks to a brace from Phil Foden and a cracking goal from Kevin De Bruyne.
