Masters football is back.
Back in February, it was confirmed that the Masters, a tournament where retired players dust off their boots for a six-a-side tournament, would return after an 11-year absence.
The competition will be staged at the Braehead Arena in Glasgow on July 8th.
Each side’s lineups for the upcoming tournament have now been released. Some big names feature, including Jamie Carragher, Steve McManaman, Stiliyan Petrov and Louis Saha.
View the teams below…
Sander Westerveld, Jamie Carragher, Stephen Warnock, Steve McManaman, David Thompson, Stewart Downing, Luis Garcia, Jermaine Pennant
Two players from Liverpool’s Champions League winning side in 2005 feature: Carragher and Garcia.
McManaman, now 50, won two Champions League titles with Real Madrid during an illustrious career.
Paul Rachubka, Wes Brown, John O’Shea, Karel Poborsky, Darron Gibson, Quinton Fortune, Louis Saha, TBC
United’s centre-back pairing, Brown and O’Shea, made 362 and 392 appearances respectively for the club.
Saha scored 42 goals during his five seasons with the Red Devils.
Gibson, 34, only just retired from professional football and may not be as rusty as his opponents.
Rob Douglas, Kelvin Wilson, Mark Wilson, Joe Ledley, Kris Commons, Stilyan Petrov, Simon Donnelly, Carlton Cole
Petrov is the stand-out name from Celtic’s squad. He made 311 appearances for The Bhoys and helped them to four Scottish Premier League titles.
Ledley, just 35, only stopped playing last year and could well thrive against older opponents.
Roy Carroll, Alan Hutton, Carlos Cuellar, Pedro Mendes, Lee McCulloch, Barry Ferguson, Kris Boyd, Michael Mols
Rangers’ goalkeeper, Carroll, will turn against one of his former sides, Man United.
Ferguson, one of Rangers’ best players ever, helped the club to 15 trophies across two spells.
The tournament is now just three weeks away. We can’t wait.
