Vitesse Arnhem are fighting for their survival in court today, and supporters have shown up en masse. Hundreds of fans made their way to the court in Utrecht to support the club during the preliminary injunction regarding its professional license. Four full buses left Arnhem for Utrecht earlier in the morning.
Hope is rife amongst the Arnhem faithful, despite the club’s difficult situation. The city centre’s cafes and pubs opened early for the day, allowing supporters to gather with flags, scarves, and chants.
A large turnout has been expected at the courthouse in Utrecht. Vitesse supporters want to demonstrate with their presence that the club is alive and well and that losing its license would be not only a sporting disaster for Arnhem, but also one on a personal, community level.
Proceedings started at 13:30 (Central European Summer Time) and as Voetbal International summarised: “Whatever the outcome, one thing is certain: Vitesse is not alone. Their love for the club is proving stronger than ever in these difficult times.”
