Alan Hutton claims there will be new interest in a Newcastle United takeover after the Amanda Staveley-fronted bid fell through.

The former Aston Villa and Sunderland defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, insists it has been “poor” from Premier League officials to have left the club and fans in limbo.

In a statement relayed to Sky Sports, the Saudi-backed consortium confirmed they had pull out of their bid to buy the club and singled out the “unforeseeably prolonged process” as a reason for the collapse.

There is yet to be any official announcement from the Premier League regarding the statement.

Hutton believes that there will be other suitors waiting in the wings but that he wants to see more transparency from the league regarding takeover bids.

Asked if the Premier League had to take some blame for the development, Hutton told Football Insider: “Yeah, I think it’s poor, I think all the cards should be on the table, everyone should see everything and you can move forward from there.

“I feel sorry for the fans, we’re talking about four months – it’s them, it’s them that wants to know what’s happening with their club. It’s difficult for them so if everything was out on the table then we could see what was happening.

“To turn round at the last minute when everyone thinks it’s going well and just say: ‘Right, that’s it, it’s off,’ it’s difficult to take. They’re a massive club, I’m pretty sure there will be other buyers but it just seems we were so far down the line and then it’s been snatched away.

“The fans must be upset about it. Hopefully, somebody else can come in because the Mike Ashley situation, it’s not great, I think for all parties concerned it would be good for him to move on.”

Ashley has been in charge of the Magpies since 2007 but it has been a tumultuous reign full of controversy and discontent at St James’ Park.
