After a busy summer transfer window, Arsenal have endured a quiet start to January, as far as their market activity is concerned. They are yet to sign any new players, instead losing a player in the form of Ainsley Maitland-Niles. The Englishman has recently joined AS Roma on a short-term loan deal, in what has been the club’s only move in the market so far.

However, recent reports suggest Arsenal have made noticeable strides in their pursuit of Arthur Melo. Mikel Arteta wants to sign the Juventus midfielder on a loan deal, potentially with an option for redemption at the end of the season. Arthur himself is prepared to “fly in” to North London to finalise the move, although the transfer hinges on Juventus.

Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri was recently asked about Arthur’s ongoing transfer saga. Reliable Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has posted excerpts from his press conference ahead of the weekend’s encounter against Udinese, where the Italian has addressed the future of some of his players.

“I already said it – this one is our team and we need to complete the season with the current squad.”, said the Juventus manager, when asked about Arthur and his potential move to Emirates.

Arthur has been a part of the Juventus side since the summer of 2020 when he joined the club on an exchange deal involving him and Miralem Pjanic. Much like his counterpart, his move to Turin has not worked out quite well, with the youngster struggling with game-time and falling behind the likes of Manuel Locatelli and Rodrigo Bentancur in the pecking order.

However, Allegri’s comments seem to suggest he has no intention of allowing any of the existing midfield options to leave the club mid-season. It won’t be surprising to see the Bianconeri keeping hold of the Brazilian until they sign a new player in the market.

Meanwhile, in the press conference, Allegri also opened up on the future of Paulo Dybala. “Dybala’s contract? The board takes care of contracts, not me. I’m happy with Paulo”, said the Italian tactician, who will be keen on keeping hold of the Argentine international, whose contract expires at the end of the season.
