AC Milan sporting director Ricky Massara has suggested that a defender might not arrive between now and the end of the current transfer window.

There has been plenty of pressure from fans and certain sections of the media for the Milan management to go out and improve the squad in January given that the team have been without their three best centre-backs for all of 2022 so far due to a combination of knee injuries and Covid-19.

Not only that but the midfield has suffered too with Franck Kessie and Ismael Bennacer at the African Cup of Nations and Sandro Tonali suspended for last night’s controversial 2-1 defeat against Spezia. So far, however, no new signings have arrived and the rumour mill is quiet.

Massara spoke during an interview with DAZN ahead of Milan’s game against Spezia yesterday evening and he was asked what the plans are for the mercato and what reinforcements may arrive.

“Tomori’s injury is not that serious and should come back quickly. We continue to think that if there is an opportunity to complete the defensive department, we will do it but only under the conditions that will allow us to improve the team,” he said (via MilanNews).
