Mason Mount has been awarded Chelsea’s “Player of the Season” for the 2021/2022 campaign.

The midfielder had quiet spells, but the numbers don’t lie in a season that was marked by inconsistency all round.

The number 19 had 11 goals and league assists – topping the team’s charts in both and second only to Trent Alexander-Arnold in the league for assists.

His influence goes deeper than just being the final piece in the team’s attack though. He also won possession in the final third more than any other player in the squad.

England’s long campaign at the Euros meant that Mount slowed a little in the middle section of the season, as the punishing schedule and waves of injuries and Covid absences hurt the whole team.

His highlight reel moment was probably the superb volley against West Ham – although that game will always be better remembered for the way Chelsea lost it in the end.
