Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has revealed that Mason Mount gave him the ‘burning eyes’ after he told him he wasn’t starting the game versus Manchester City on Saturday.

This is once again a testament to the top quality mentality and attitude that Mount carries, he was ‘not happy’ about starting the game, says Tuchel, but that’s because he is the kind of guy who wants to be on the pitch every game doing his all for Chelsea and helping them be a success.

This is certainly not words that should cause drama or cause a stir, because Tuchel would want to see this exact attitude from all of his players if he tells them they are not starting, because the ultimate goal for all players in his team should be to be out on that pitch working hard for results.

These words came in the embargo section of yesterday’s pre-match Brighton press conference, and Tuchel was asked whether Mount gave him the same ‘burning eyes’ as he used to give Frank Lampard when he told him he wasn’t starting a match.

“Yeah, I got them [the burning eyes] and this is absolutely normal, and it’s still within Mason’s character of kindness and being polite and being respectful, so there is no harm in this,” Tuchel said as reported by The Telegraph.

“He is here to play these kinds of matches, but we were simply opting for runners. We thought we could break the line more often with Hakim [Ziyech] as a left foot on the left side and going for Christian [Pulisic] as a right side. Normally, he is a bit more offensive and he’s a bit more of a runner than Mason, and we expected the spaces more behind the last line and not in front of the back four from City.

“I felt Mason was not like in the 100 per cent zone, where he is untouchable, which he normally almost is. He’s not happy about it, but it will not last long because everyone loves Mason – me included.”
