Manchester United loanee Mason Greenwood dazzled once again as Getafe played their last La Liga clash of the 2023/24 season against Mallorca.

Heading into the game, Getafe were on a run of four consecutive defeats stretching back to their 2-0 loss at the hands of Athletic Club earlier this month.

Against Mallorca on Sunday afternoon, Jose Bordalas’ men took the lead just three minutes after the break through defender Gaston Alvarez.

Getafe led for most of the proceedings and looked set for a win and the chance to end their season on a relatively high note but it wasn’t to be.

Strikes in the 90th and 93rd minute from Vedat Muriqi and Pablo Maffeo respectively added to Greenwood and his teammates’ woes as they were denied a share of the points.

However, as has largely been the case this season and even in their recent difficult run, Greenwood gave a good account of himself and can lift his head high.

The United loanee started on the right side of a 4-1-4-1 formation.

During the 90 minutes plus additional time that he was on the pitch, the forward registered 55 touches of the ball. He successfully delivered 32 of the 35 passes he attempted, managing an individual pass completion rate of 91%.

Greenwood tried to find his intended target with one cross and four long balls. He couldn’t connect with his single crossing attempt but found a blue shirt with three of the long balls he pinged.

Across the match, he fired six shots, four of which were off-target, while two of these required Ivan Cuellar in the Mallorca net to swing into immediate action.

Greenwood embarked on two dribbles and completed one.

He was solid defensively, winning five out of nine ground duels he engaged in, though he was unsuccessful in both aerial challenges he faced. He also put in one tackle.

Now that both Getafe and United’s respective seasons are done and dusted, both clubs will be eager to address the elephant in the room – where Greenwood will be playing his football next season.

Unsurprisingly, the Spanish outfit want to keep him for a bit longer but they face competition from the likes of Juventus and Atletico Madrid, who have far deeper pockets.
