Mason Greenwood has once again suffered abuse in Spanish stadiums after the latest round of La Liga fixtures.

The 22 year old left Old Trafford on loan under a cloud last summer after the legal case against him was dropped last year.

After much indecision from Manchester United, they finally decided to loan the player out to keep him away from the first team after the fierce public backlash against Greenwood’s planned reintegration.

The Englishman has had an impressive loan spell at Getafe, where he is a first choice winger and has played 30 times for the side from the Spanish capital this season.

He was in great form again yesterday as he was the joint-highest rated player on the pitch according to Sofascore, and provided a sublime assist in Getafe’s 1-1 draw with Real Sociedad.

However, despite the fact the Spanish reaction to the controversial winger has been muted in comparison to what he could expect in England, this does mean that he has been welcomed with open arms.

During the game yesterday it was reported that there were chants of “Greenwood die” and “Greenwood r—-t” in the stands from travelling Real Sociedad fans.

These chants were heard by officials and will be included in their match report to La Liga.

The Bradford born player was also at the centre of abuse from fans back in January when Osasuna fans showered the player with insults in Getafe’s loss in Pamplona.

In addition, Greenwood was involved in an on-field incident with Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham who allegedly labelled the United man a “r—-t”. The incident was investigated by the Spanish Football Federation but no punishments were handed out in the end.

The future of the player looks likely to be away from Old Trafford as it was reported that the club are still working on the assumption that the player will be sold in the summer window.

Consequently, Greenwood has been linked to numerous clubs in Spain and Italy, with Juventus seemingly particularly keen.

Such is the Red Devils’ readiness to cut ties with the player it has been relayed here that United would send him on loan once again to reduce the transfer fee a potential buyer would need to hand over in the future.
