Sheffield Wednesday got their pre-season preparations underway with a 0-0 draw at Alfreton Town on Saturday afternoon.

The Owls will want to put their play-off semi final defeat to Sunderland swiftly to the back of supporters’ minds in 2022/23, with the club already completing some exciting new signings.

It is hard to read too much into pre-season with players slowly building their fitness back up and getting used to playing with new team-mates.

Jaden Brown is the most dangerous player in the Wednesday squad at the moment, as far as Johnson’s starting berth is concerned, with some of the forward options that the Owls had last term departing at the end of their deals or returning to parent clubs.

Wednesday have a very challenging first couple of months fixture wise in the calendar, and therefore patience may be required from the stands before the team can assert themselves as one of the pace-setters at the top end.
