Arsenal defeated Liverpool at the weekend in a five-goal thriller that had everything, the good, the bad and the controversial.
However, FIFA 23 gamers may have spotted one incident during the game which will make you question the stats on the game of two players in particular.
That is Luis Diaz and Gabriel Martinelli, with both players an option down the left hand side for those looking for Premier League players.
The Colombian wide man tops his Brazilian counterpart in all categories bar defending, boasting an 84 overall to Martinelli’s 78. The defending difference isn’t going to be a major issue for those on the game, with few opting to perform defensive work with either of them.
Both forwards are rapid in real life, with that reflected in Diaz’s 91 pace on the game, however, Martinelli only has 87.
Sprint speed and acceleration make up that overall pace stat, with Diaz unsurprisingly coming out top in both when looking at their base card stats, if you’ve been active on FIFA Ultimate Team, you’ve likely had to defend against Diaz much more than Martinelli given the major difference in ability on the game.
If you ask the above question to EA Sports, the answer will be a resounding yes after analysing both players on this year’s game.
However, the answer can certainly vary in real life, with just that happening at the weekend as Martinelli left Diaz in his trail as he torched past him to get to the ball first.
When you see just how much quicker Martinelli was in the clip, it’s hard to believe that he is a full four pace points behind the Liverpool forward.
Obviously, that’s just one isolated incident from the game so it will never reflect their statistics perfectly, although it certainly raises some eyebrows.
To truly test the accuracy of the pace stats, you’d have to set the pair up for a sprint race to see who was genuinely the fastest between the two, although from that clip alone you’d be backing Martinelli.
In fact, outside of the defending stats where he wins them all, Martinelli is only deemed better in two individual stats compared to Diaz, but both have a huge future ahead of them and will likely see themselves get much higher rated cards, this year and in future games!
