The 25-year-old notched his 12th goal of the campaign when he broke the deadlock in the fifth minute.

But disaster struck later in the first half when he was stretchered off through injury.

Terrier produced a clean challenge to stop an opponent in their tracks on the half-hour-mark.

The French forward immediately collapsed to the floor clutching his knee following the tackle.

Terrier screams as he laid on the turf were haunting. View the injury below…

Awful. Terrier was on the floor for some time before being carried off.

It has since been reported by L’Equipe that Terrier will be out of action for eight months after suffering injury to his right knee ligaments and meniscus.

We wish him all the best and a speedy recovery.

Bruno Genesio: What did Rennes manager say about Martin Terrier’s injury?

Rennes boss Bruno Genesio spoke to the media following his side’s 2-1 victory.

Addressing Terrier’s injury, he said, per GetFrenchFootballNews: “It’s the big downside of the evening. We will have more news tomorrow (Tuesday), So far it’s a swollen knee. But it’s never very good when a knee turns and swells like that.

“When a player is injured like that, we feel that it is quite serious, emotionally, it is difficult. At the break, all the players went to see Martin to comfort him. I left a moment of calm, then I came back to things that we had to correct. And we were able to get back into it in a second with a lot of quality and intensity.”

He added: “Replacing Martin, finding players of this quality in the transfer window, it is impossible. We will think, ask ourselves, and wait for the medical verdict.

“But there are players capable of compensating for its absence, or the possibility of a different system (4-3-3). We will reflect on what we will do. Jérémy Doku, Kamaldeen Sulemana and Désiré Doué will no doubt have the opportunity to show themselves more.”
