CELTIC have distanced themselves from a document that states that former manager Martin O’Neill and Roy Keane would replace Neil Lennon as manager until the end of the season. However, the Daily Record are reporting that this is wide of the mark and that Lennon would remain as manager for the time being.

Lawwell used the outlet to address the fans leaving the only direct communication from the club being a statement of condemnation  for the ugly scenes that occurred on Sunday night. You can’t help but feel that these would have been avoided if the club had said that they were reviewing what has gone wrong this season.

The link was that the former Ireland managerial duo would return to the club in an attempt to rescue what has been an abject season. But it appears that Dermot Desmond has decided to offer Lennon another reprieve and the chance to turn it around.

“Record Sport also understands talk of the club reaching out to Martin O’Neill – with Roy Keane as no.2 – over a possible return is well wide of the mark.

“A document doing the rounds online last night suggesting a prepared announcement of the former manager’s return has been dismissed by the club as completely false.”

O’Neill and Lennon have a close relationship so it is unlikely that he would come in to undermine his former midfielder and likewise this is the case with Gordon Strachan. Celtic’s issues are deeper than who is in the managerial hotseat and Rangers will be rubbing their hands with glee as Celtic’s infighting continues.
