Former Aston Villa defender Martin Laursen could have already been a member of the Aston Villa management staff.
However, Laursen revealed to the Claret and Blue Podcast that he actually rejected an offer to join Roberto Di Matteo’s team in the summer of 2016.
“Di Matteo when he was at Aston Villa he actually phoned me and asked me if I would come,” Laursen said.
“But it was too quick and I didn’t think he was prepared enough for what I should do there and other things.
“It didn’t go well for him there but I had a chance to come to Aston Villa at that time and I didn’t take it because I didn’t think it was right.”
Though he turned down the opportunity four years ago, he still has Aston Villa in his heart and is looking forward to taking a chance in the future.
“Aston Villa for me is my club, that’s where I have my heart,” he said.
“I can see that people like me, so obviously if I start doing something here and start to prepare for a big job I would obviously consider Aston Villa if they needed me someday.”
Laursen managed second-division Danish side BK Søllerød-Vedbæk for the 2011-12 season but resigned afterwards to focus on his family life.
