Queens Park Rangers manager Marti Cifuentes has praised his side's team work and perseverance during their clash against Birmingham City yesterday, taking to X after the game.

This game was a huge one for both teams, with the pair in the relegation mix and just one point apart from each other going into the Good Friday clash at Loftus Road.

Blues, under Gary Rowett, may have fancied their chances of getting a point or three from this match following their change in management.

And they took the lead, with Juninho Bacuna's strike in the 62nd minute causing mayhem in the away end.

But that joy for Birmingham fans was to be short-lived, with Steve Cook levelling the game just three minutes later.

And in the second minute of stoppage time, Jimmy Dunne scored a superb winner, with his stunning strike earning the R's a potentially crucial three points.

QPR now sit four points above the drop zone with seven games to go.

Their job is nowhere near done yet, but they have taken a potentially big step towards securing safety after their Good Friday win against a fellow relegation contender.

Birmingham, meanwhile, are in deep trouble despite making a good start to the season and could be relegated at the end of Tom Wagner's first season at the helm.

The R's needed to hold their nerve and show bravery during such a crucial clash - and Cifuentes has hailed another two things his side showed yesterday.

Taking to X to express his delight, QPR's boss posted: "Team work and perseverance. No time to relax, there's no let-up. We keep going!"

He is certainly focused on the task in hand - and he's right to with their away clash at Swansea City coming up on Monday.

Queens Park Rangers still have a job to do

Dunne has secured QPR such a potentially vital win.

But this win will only prove to be crucial if they can build on that and get more points on the board before the end of the campaign.

There are still seven games to go before the end of the season and with the R's only four points above the drop zone at this point, another couple of wins will probably be needed.

Monday's game against Swansea is a winnable match, but whether they can win all three points in South Wales remains to be seen.

Even a point would be useful, but if they can win all three, that should also help to ease relegation fears, like yesterday did.

What yesterday's victory also did is put a fellow relegation candidate under a huge amount of pressure, which can only be a positive for the R's.
