Marseille, who take on Sporting CP in a home fixture in the Champions League on Tuesday, signed Jordan Veretout from Roma in the last summer transfer window. Despite the French club making an underwhelming start to their European campaign this time, Veretout remains hopeful of a turnaround.

Speaking to RMC Sport ahead of their fixture against the Portuguese club, the midfielder echoed sparks of optimism and claimed that there is a chance for OM to even win the Champions League in the 2022/23 season. He said:

“The music of the Champions League is very emotional. Even on the pitch, it gives you a thrill. I hope to experience more of it and continue what we have been doing since the start of the season. Frankly, I think we still have a chance. We will have to raise our game in the Champions League to get the win and believe in it.”

OM have played two games in the Champions League this season but have lost both. Sporting have been successful with a 100 per cent winning rate as they astoundingly beat Tottenham Hotspur in their previous gameweek. Since joining the French side, Veretout has made 11 appearances for the Ligue 1 club thus far. If everything goes as planned, he should be in Igor Tudor’s line-up on Tuesday.
