According to a report by Foot Mercato and confirmed by L’Équipe, Bamo Meïté (23) is set to join FC Lorient from Olympique de Marseille on a season-long loan without an option to make the deal permanent.

The centre-back joined Marseille two years ago from Lorient, initially on loan, but with a clause to buy. That season he spent on loan at Marseille was his most promising, despite the club experiencing a disappointing campaign, where they missed out on European football.

He became a permanent signing in 2024, which coincided with the arrival of Roberto De Zerbi as head coach. Despite some promising signs in pre-season, the centre-back struggled to earn a spot in the manager’s plans, and in the winter window, he was loaned out to Montpellier HSC.

Meïté will be hoping to make some progress at Lorient this season, as his former club have been in need of defensive reinforcements. Les Merlus suffered a bruising 7-1 defeat yesterday at home to Lille OSC.
