Olympique de Marseille have been looking to offload Azzedine Ounahi (25) for several months, and they now finally look set to do just that. As per a report from Foot Mercato, the Morocco international is set to join Girona on a permanent deal.
Ounahi spent last season at Panathinaikos, where he got his career back on track, making 37 appearances and being elected fans’ player of the season. Previously, he had struggled at OM, having made the move after his breakout tournament for Morocco at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
However, Panathinaikos are unable to afford the €11.5m purchase option included in the loan deal. He will therefore return to Marseille, where he does not have a future under Roberto De Zerbi.
The former SCO Angers midfielder had been training away from the first team in anticipation of a departure. He will now join Girona in a deal worth just over €6m. That is significantly below OM’s initial €12m asking price, however, to make up the difference, OM have included a handsome sell-on percentage. Ounahi himself is keen on the move and had made a transfer to La Liga a priority.
