Marseille visited the Allianz Riviera at the beginning of the 2022-20223 season and came away with a win which marked a positive start to the Igor Tudor era at the club. Alexis Sánchez opened the scoring in the 10th minute before Arsenal loanee Nuno Tavares doubled the score for the away side. Alexis Sánchez then grabbed his brace as OM would run away with the early-season derby.
Les Aiglons would get their revenge last season, as they came away from the Vélodrome with a 3-1 win thanks to goals from Sofiane Diop, Gaëtan Laborde, and Billal Brahimi. Didier Digard's side managed to halt an 11-game unbeaten run from OM, who scored in the 60th minute to try and mount a comeback in vain.
Rudi Garcia's side came away with a huge 4-2 win over Nice back in 2017 in a match that had plenty of goal-mouth action. It began with Nice taking a two-goal advantage in the game via Mario Balotelli (4') and Jean-Michael Seri (16'). OM would start the fight-back with a finish via Lucas Ocampos (26'), before a Lees-Melou own goal and another finish from Ocampos (44') put Les Olympiens ahead just before the half-time whistle. OM scored another in the second half via Luiz Gustavo (48') to snatch three points from their mediterranean neighbours.
It was a heated meeting between the two sides, this time in the Coupe de France quarter-final stage in a match which saw Les Aiglons come from behind to win 4-1. Christophe Galtier's Nice went behind in the 3rd minute to a Melvin Bard own goal, but then goals from Amine Gouiri, a brace from Justin Kluivert, and a final goal from Andy Delort saw the home side reach the semi-finals.
