With Nuno Tavares set to return to Arsenal at the end of the season after an erratic loan spell, a reinforcement at wing-back is shaping up to be one of Marseille’s priorities for the summer. According to L’Équipe tonight, Lille’s Timothy Weah has emerged as the priority candidate, with the USA international unanimously approved by the club’s deciders.

The 23-year-old, who had attracted interest from the Premier League in January, recently reached a century of appearances for Les Dogues, where he remains under contract for another season. The OM management and coach Igor Tudor are particularly impressed by his versatility – the former Paris Saint-Germain man can play on either wing, and in attacking roles just as much as defensive positions.

Ligue 1’s second-placed side have yet to reach out to the northerners, and are waiting to see whether Champions League football is guaranteed next year before making a move. Weah is also being targeted by several Bundesliga clubs, namely Borussia Mönchengladbach and Bayer Leverkusen.
