Olympique de Marseille have made a contract offer to Nayef Aguerd (29), with the Moroccan defender emerging as a top priority for the club’s defensive overhaul this summer, according to Foot Mercato. Fresh off securing a pre-contract agreement with England international Angel Gomes, Marseille are wasting no time as they look to reshape their squad ahead of a return to the UEFA Champions League next season. The next key piece in their recruitment strategy is Nayef Aguerd, who is expected to leave West Ham United this summer.

Aguerd, who has 51 caps for Morocco, spent the second half of the 2024/25 campaign on loan at Real Sociedad, making 36 appearances across all competitions.  Sociedad are reportedly keen to sign him permanently, but they face strong competition from Marseille. The Moroccan centre-back is understood to be attracted by the club’s project under Roberto De Zerbi and the chance to feature in the Champions League.

Other clubs remain in the race. Bayer Leverkusen and Atlético de Madrid have also shown interest in the 29-year-old, while West Ham – with whom Aguerd is still under contract until 2027 – will ultimately decide whether to sanction a transfer.GFFN | George Boxall
