Marseille pushing to sign West Ham left-back Emerson Palmieri

Olympique de Marseille are in advanced talks with West Ham United to sign left-back Emerson Palmieri (31), according to Foot Mercato. The Italy international was one of two Premier League left-backs – with Liverpool’s Kostas Tsimikas – who were of interest for Roberto De Zerbi’s OM. Marseille are in the market for a left-back after parting ways with Quentin Merlin, who joined Ligue 1 rivals Rennes.

De Zerbi is short of long-term options for Marseille’s left defensive flank. Amir Murillo started against Rennes and Ulysses Garcia featured this weekend against Paris FC. Emerson Palmieri would be a free agent as Foot Mercato understands that West Ham could agree to a contract termination for their left-back. Palmieri, who has entered the final months of his contract, would make his return to Ligue 1 after spending the 2021-2022 season at Lyon on loan from Chelsea FC.
