Jean Onana is set to make his debut when Olympique de Marseille face RC Strasbourg Alsace on Friday night, as Ligue 1 football makes its return following the winter break.
Marseille are heavily depleted due to the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which is about to get underway in the Ivory Coast. Pape Gueye, Chancel Mbemba, Amine Harit, Azzedine Ounahi, Ismaïla Sarr and Iliman Ndiaye are all absent, whilst François Mughe, who refused his call-up to the Cameroon squad, must wait for the federation’s approval before being permitted to compete at club level. With Valentin Rongier and Joaquín Correa also still out with injury, Gennaro Gattuso’s options are slightly limited.
However, he has nonetheless been boosted by the arrival of Onana, who is likely to be thrown straight into action against Strasbourg.
