Olympique de Marseille make their long-awaited return to Ligue 1 action on Thursday when they host Toulouse at the Orange Vélodrome. Whilst Jordan Veretout will likely return to the fold, another returning World Cup player, Mattéo Guendouzi, looks set to miss out.

Former Arsenal midfielder Guendouzi, who featured sparingly during the World Cup in Qatar, is suffering from an ankle problem and will therefore miss out. However, another returning Bleu, Veretout, will make the matchday squad, although he is unlikely to start.

Another player whose return is being managed is Eric Bailly. The Manchester United loanee only returned to collective training last week, and will therefore only make the Marseille bench. Arsenal loanee Nuno Tavares will start at left-wing-back, and Jonathan Clauss, who was a surprise omission from Didier Deschamps’ World Cup squad, will make his return to competitive action on the opposite wing. Alexis Sánchez will be partnered by Dimitri Payet up front.

Marseille predicted lineup

Pau Lopez – Leonardo Balerdi, Samuel Gigot, Chancel Mbemba – Nuno Tavares, Pape Gueye, Valentin Rongier, Jonathan Clauss – Dimitri Payet, Alexis Sánchez, Cenzig Ünder. (L’Éq)
