Olympique de Marseille are running on fumes as they look to overturn a one-goal deficit against Benfica in the second leg of their UEFA Europa League encounter against Benfica on Thursday.

Jean-Louis Gasset has been contending with a defensive injury crisis for several weeks now. Bamo Meite is out until the end of the season, Jonathan Clauss has been out for several weeks, as has Michael Murillo, whilst Leonardo Balerdi, Samuel Gigot and Chancel Mbemba have all struggled with injuries. Almost the entirety of OM’s defence has been affected.

Clauss will not be fit to face Benfica on Thursday, although he is nearing a return. Gigot and Mbemba are both managing injuries and will have the play through the pain. The former has taken an injection to allow him to compete against Benfica, according to L’Équipe. Mbemba is struggling with a knee issue but will play regardless. Balerdi, Jordan Veretout and Geoffrey Kondogbia are also not in peak physical form but will likely start the Europa League tie.
