French side Marseille are considering joining Inter in the race to sign Lazio defender Francesco Acerbi before the end of the transfer window.

This according to French newspaper L’Equipq, via FCInter1908, who report that Marseille have identified the 34-year-old as an alternative to sign if they are unable to complete a deal for Manchester United’s Eric Bailly, and they could try to sign him ahead of Inter.

The Nerazzurri have looked to be getting closer and closer to signing Acerbi over the past few days, with talks between them, the Biancocelesti, and the player’s representatives having accelerated significantly as they look ready to settle on him as their final defensive signing of the summer.

However, a deal is not yet wrapped up for the 34-year-old, and Marseille could be keen to try and get themselves into contention for his signature.

The French outfit want to strengthen with one more defensive signing before the transfer window slams shut, and while their priority target is Manchester United defender Bailly, if they do not sign the Ivorian then Acerbi is on their radar.
