Olympique de Marseille have begun exploring the option to bring Zeki Çelik (26) back to Ligue 1 from AS Roma, according to L’Équipe.
The fullback had been used sparingly this season having only made nine appearances in the league under then-manager Jose Mourinho and only two of those were as a starter. His situation does not look much more optimistic now that the club have brought in Daniele De Rossi as their head coach, as Çelik remained an unused substitute in both of De Rossi’s games in charge.
Marseille are keen to find cover at the right-back position since placing Jonathan Clauss (31) on the market and Çelik’s four-year stint in the league during his time with Lille is appreciated by Les Phocéens.
Another significant factor in Çelik’s favour for Marseille is that he is a far cheaper option than Lorenz Assignon (23), who Stade Rennais are pricing at €10 million, despite not being a definite starter for the Bretons.
