Marseille are working on a deal to sign Arsenal full-back Oleksandr Zinchenko (28), according to The Athletic’s David Ornstein. Les Phocéens would be keen to land the Ukraine international, who has entered the final months of his four-year deal in North London. Nevertheless, Zinchenko’s wage demands could represent a stumbling block for Marseille’s decision-makers, club president Pablo Longoria and Director of Football Medhi Benatia.
Marseille, who will feature in the Champions League this season, were in the market for a left-back as former France youth international Quentin Merlin left the Vélodrome to sign for Ligue 1 rivals Stade Rennais. OM previously entertained a loan move for Liverpool’s Kostas Tsimikas and they were set to sign West Ham United left-back Emerson Palmieri, but the Italy international’s move is yet to be confirmed by either party.
The Athletic adds that talks are ongoing with Marseille now pondering whether or not a move for Zinchenko can be pulled before Monday’s deadline.
