Former Inter and current Marseille forward Alexis Sanchez has revealed that he had no doubts about leaving the Nerazzurri last summer as he wanted to be at a club where he would receive playing time.
Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews, the 34-year-old looked back on the circumstances of his departure from the Nerazzurri, and also noted that he still hears from some of his old Inter teammates.
Sanchez left Inter last summer to join Marseille on a free transfer, as the Chilean’s contract with the Nerazzurri was terminated by mutual consent,
This ended a three-year spell at the San Siro for the former Arsenal, Barcelona, and Udinese player, who joined from Manchester United in the summer of 2019.
From the club’s perspective, it was reported that the decision to let Sanchez leave was based around needing the lighten the wage bill, whilst as the player explains, the move to Marseille was about playing time.
“Sometimes football is like that,” he said when asked about whether he had any doubts about leaving, “I wanted to play, that was the most important thing, so I was happy to join Marseille.”
Asked whether he still keeps in contact with any old Inter teammates, Sanchez replied “Yes, they occasionally message me to congratulate me, they say ‘Bravo Alexis.'”
