Marseille Could Still Be “Forced” To Sign Inter Milan Flop | OneFootball

Marseille could still be forced into signing forward Joaquin Correa on a permanent basis from Inter Milan this summer.

Today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, note the “paradox” that the French club find themselves in. If they qualify for the Champions League, they will have to make the Argentine flop’s loan deal a permanent one.

Correa joined Marseille from Inter last summer.

The 29-year-old former Lazio and Sevilla forward joined on an initial loan deal.

However, the loan contains a potential obligation for Marseille to sign Correa on a permanent basis at the end of the season.

Qualification for the Champions League next season would trigger that option.

And at the moment, Marseille are four points off of fourth spot in the Ligue 1 table. Therefore, there would be a decent chance of the French giants ending up in the Champions League via that route.

Meanwhile, Marseille are also still in the Europa League. They meet Benfica in the quarterfinal stage next month.

So that is another potential avenue by which the Ligue 1 club could reach Europe’s top club competition.

Marseille Could Be “Forced” To Sign Joaquin Correa From Inter

Obviously, qualifying for the Champions League would be desirable for Marseille one way or the other.

But it would have one “negative” side.

Simply put, Marseille have no intention of signing Correa from Inter on a permanent basis.

The Argentine has not featured regularly for the Ligue 1 side this season. He has zero goals or assists in the league.

If anything, Correa’s form with Marseille has been even worse than it was at Inter.

The 29-year-old never really lived up to expectations across two seasons at the Nerazzurri.

So Marseille would undoubtedly be signing a player they don’t really want to if they do qualify for the Champions League.

And Inter, for their part, will undoubtedly be hoping that the French side do qualify.

The Nerazzurri would hardly be keen to have to deal with Correa’s future this summer.
