Whilst Jean-Louis Gasset has excelled since taking the reigns at Olympique de Marseille, the Ligue 1 club are not preparing the long-term with the Frenchman, according to L’Équipe. Paulo Fonseca and Christophe Galtier are being considered for next season.
Gasset took over from Gennaro Gattuso on a 100-day mission on 20th February. Five games and five victories later, there is renewed hope at Marseille, with the club close to securing qualification for the UEFA Europa League quarter-finals and just three points away from the UEFA Champions League places in Ligue 1.
However, despite his success. the managerial roundabout continues to turn at OM. It is not expected that Gasset, who was brought in on an interim basis, will continue beyond the end of the current campaign. That is the desire for both Gasset and the hierarchy at OM. Les Phocéens are therefore drawing up a succession plan.
On Marseille’s shortlist to replace Gasset, two familiar names appear. Fonseca was a target for OM last summer before Pablo Longoria ultimately opted to bring Marcelino to the club. The Portuguese manager, who has not committed his future to Lille OSC, is once again being reconsidered, as is Galtier, who is currently managing out in Qatar.
