Borussia Dortmund defender Leonardo Balerdi has joined Ligue 1 side Marseille for the coming season.

The 21-year-old arrived at the Westfalenstadion in January 2019 with a big reputation.

But things haven’t worked out as planned and he will spend the 2020/21 campaign in France at the Stade Vélodrome.

“Balerdi approached the club and told us that he wished to move,” director Michael Zorc said via a press release.

“He hopes that he will receive more playing time in Marseille.

“We thank him for his effort and wish him the maximum success for the future.”

Balerdi made just eight appearances in all competitions last season for BVB and clocked up a total of just 141 minutes over the course of those outings.
