According to Fabrizio Romano and confirmed by Foot Mercato, Olympique de Marseille’s search for a new goalkeeper sees the club interested in Ajax’s Gerónimo Rulli (32).
Marseille have been keen to strengthen throughout their team this summer and Pau López (29) looks to be an unfortunate victim of the club’s desire to gut and rebuild. The Spaniard has only been in the South of France for three years, but within that time he became a quiet leader in the dressing room.
However, it was clear even from his last press conference ahead of the final game of the season that there were some doubts over whether his stay would continue beyond this summer. Marseille had looked close to selling him to Como 1907 in the current transfer window, however, before they could sell they wanted his replacement to have joined.
This search has been long delayed (enough to see a deal with Como fall through) and filled with false dawns. However, Romano writes that discussions have now begun with Ajax and Rulli over a move, with the Argentine international looking a capable figure for how Roberto De Zerbi would like his side to build out from the back.
