Arsenal loanees Nuno Tavares and Folarin Balogun were on the scoresheet for their respective sides in Marseille's 4-1 win over Reims on Sunday.

Both youngsters are spending the season out on loan in Ligue 1 and got off to perfect personal starts with debut goals for their new teams.

An own goal from Wout Faes put the hosts ahead after 13 minutes, before Tavares doubled their advantage with a scintillating strike in first-half stoppage time. The left-back cut back inside and unleashed a lethal effort with his weaker right foot from 20 yards to bring the boisterous Stade Velodrome crowd to their feet.

Luis Suarez (not that one) then added a third for Marseille with a quarter of an hour to go, though Balogun - brought on as a second-half substitute - pulled one back ten minutes later. Leonardo Balerdi sliced his clearance when trying to deal with an Alexis Flips cross, and the young striker quickly adjusted himself to get a solid header on the diverted ball, leaving Ruben Blanco stranded in between the sticks.

Suarez added OM's fourth in injury time as the hosts capped off an emphatic opening victory under new boss Igor Tudor, whose name was whistled by home fans prior to kick off.

Tavares admitted in Arsenal's Amazon Prime All or Nothing documentary that he struggled with homesickness last season after signing from Benfica. He sealed a loan to Marseille at the end of July.

Balogun, meanwhile, spent the second half of last season at Middlesbrough but scarcely impressed on Teesside and will be hoping for a more fruitful spell in France.
