Marquinhos says Paris Saint-Germain’s players were left “disgusted” by their surprise 2-1 defeat to Guingamp on Wednesday.

PSG went in front at Parc des Princes via a Neymar header but penalties from Yeni Ngbakoto and Marcus Thuram turned the game on its head and ended the Ligue 1 champions’ 49-game domestic cup winning streak.

And Marquinhos – who was substituted at half-time – says the result and performance left him bitterly disappointed.

“We are all disgusted to have lost, especially in one of the cups,” said the Brazilian, as quoted by ESPN.

“It is not just a defeat, it was an opportunity to win another title.”

Guingamp were awarded three penalties – one of which was missed – in just 30 second half minutes and Marco Verratti was left dismayed by the “weird” nature of the game.

“Yes, we wanted to reach the semi-finals, but we have not managed to do so,” said the Italian.

“It was a weird match, in my opinion. We did not concede many chances, yet we gave up three avoidable penalties.”

And Les Parisiens boss Thomas Tuchel believes the game provided more evidence that he needs to strengthen his squad during the January transfer window.

“We did not need to lose to know that we must recruit,” said Tuchel.

“We were overconfident. It is hard to lose to three penalties – strange, even. I am angry about the second one – it is not a penalty, simply impossible.

“We were overconfident, and we lacked the hunger to finish them off, despite having the chances to do so.

“We have lost a shot at a trophy, so that is a tough blow for us. There are things to work on. Throughout the match, we were too relaxed.”
