Marquinhos (29) has become Paris Saint-Germain’s most-capped player of all time, beating the previous record holder Jean-Marc Pilorget.

The Brazilian signed for Les Parisiens for just over €30m back in 2013. It has been a good investment for PSG, who have found an almost displaceable element in their defence. His consistency has now seen him equal the appearance record at PSG after coming off the bench in a 0-0 draw against Clermont Foot on Saturday.

Having drawn level with Pilogret on Saturday, Marquinhos then broke the record during PSG’s UEFA Champions League quarter-final against Barcelona, making his 436th appearance for the club. Speaking at the weekend, Marquinhos alluded to spending the rest of his career at the Parc des Princes.

Marquinhos would have wanted to mark the occasion with a victory, however, it was not to be. In a topsy-turvy tie at the Parc des Princes, Barcelona came out the winners thanks to Andreas Christensen’s second-half winner. PSG therefore have work to do as they head to Spain next week.
