Marouane Chamakh has revealed his dream of one day becoming the manager for FC Girondins de Bordeaux in an interview with Téléfoot.

The now-retired striker spent the best part of his career at Bordeaux, after breaking through their academy system in 2002. Eight seasons in the South of France earned Chamakh a move to Arsenal where the forward struggled to ever reach the heights he had achieved in Ligue 1.

The former forward left France with a reputation as one of the more exciting attacking talents in the league. However, it was a reputation that was lost in translation as he travelled across the channel.

Chamakh became better known in England as a figure of fun or frustration, the Moroccan international jumped around clubs without ever finding another home like Bordeaux. Eventually, he ended his career in Wales with Cardiff City in 2016 – a reunion with Les Girondins often rumoured but never realised.

However, Chamakh now has another return in mind as he mentioned to Téléfoot, “I started my coaching training three years ago.” When asked where he would like to manage, the former player was clear. “It would only be Bordeaux.” He continued, “I’m a native of the region. I feel comfortable there. It’s my favourite club. And if not there, I’d want to do something with the Moroccan federation.”
