The Colombian press has taken notice a week after Marlos Moreno’s loan deal at Brazilian side Flamengo expired.
Moreno scored just once in 35 appearances with Flamengo and there was absolutely no desire to extend his loan or sign him to a permanent deal.
The 22-year-old, who once had the world at his feet after signing a €5.5m deal with Manchester City in 2016, is now effectively in club purgatory as City are likely to not bring him into camp.
After impressing at the 2016 Copa America with Colombia, City signed the then-19-year-old from Atletico Nacional.
However, since putting pen-to-paper on his deal, Moreno has been a horrendous flop, scoring just once over 63 appearances with Deportivo La Coruña, Girona, and Flamengo.
Manchester City wouldn’t have ever believed that Moreno would have to wait until his third loan spell to score his first goal – over two years after his winning goal against Costa Rica at the 2016 Copa America.
Moreno is still on the books with Manchester City until 2021 and though he was linked to São Paulo in December, there has been little-to-no developments since.
It’s quite amazing how Moreno’s career path has differed from the other South American striker City bought in summer 2016 – Gabriel Jesus.
