Markus Rosenberg has had something of a fairytale career and he got the storybook ending he deserved on Thursday night.
The 37-year-old announced prior to Malmö’s Europa League clash with Dynamo Kiev that it would be his final game as a professional.
It came on home turf for the local boy who grew up supporting Malmö and although he left for a spell, returned in 2014 to finish his career where it all began.
But it looked like we would have to settle for a farewell goal in a 3-3 draw against the Ukrainians until he provided perhaps the greatest final flourish of all time.
With a draw seeming certain, the big Swede stepped up in the 96th minute of the game to score the most dramatic of winners.
Tears and pleas for Rosenberg to give the fans one more year soon followed.
But they will fall on deaf ears.
As it doesn’t get any better than this for your final game in football.
