Mark Warburton delivers update on QPR duo ahead of Middlesbrough clash | OneFootball

Queens Park Rangers boss Mark Warburton has revealed that Jordy de Wijs could play through the pain barrier against Middlesbrough tomorrow – but it will be too soon for Geoff Cameron to return.

January signing De Wijs has had a number of issues since joining the Hoops – he arrived in west London with a groin injury that delayed his debut by two months.

The Dutchman has played six times for the R’s so far but had to be withdrawn at half-time in the 3-1 loss at Rotherham earlier in the week after suffering a broken nose.

His departure seemed to set QPR back as the game was goal-less at the break but they ended up shipping three goals in the second half, perhaps proving that De Wijs is a vital cog to Warburton’s system.

There’s a chance that he will be available for tomorrow afternoon’s trip to Middlesbrough, but there’s no such luck for Geoff Cameron, with the USA international missing the last three games and he’s expected to be on the sidelines for a few more matches.

“It was a nasty knock and he broke his nose. He’s had it reset,” Warburton revealed about De Wijs, per West London Sport.

“Hopefully he’ll be okay this morning and okay to travel. We’ll see how he presents.

“It was a nasty one but it happens – that’s football. It’s been frustrating for him but he’s certainly been very good when he’s played for us.

“We’ll see how he is. We got back (from Rotherham) in the early hours and he had it reset on Wednesday before letting it calm down yesterday. So we’ll see how he presents this morning.

“Probably not this weekend for Geoff (to return) but hopefully the weekend after.”

The Verdict

If De Wijs doesn’t make it for the game on Teesside tomorrow, then QPR are in a tough predicament when it comes to their defensive shape.

Things seemed to go awry when De Wijs went off on Tuesday night – Warburton didn’t have another centre-back to call on so on came Todd Kane and a formation change was forced upon them, which didn’t work.

So Warburton will be desperate to be able to call upon the Dutchman tomorrow or else the R’s may find themselves at the mercy of Neil Warnock and his attacking talent at the Riverside.
