Mark Warburton delivers Macauley Bonne verdict after productive start to Ipswich Town spell | OneFootball

Mark Warburton has told West London Sport that he has been impressed with Macauley Bonne’s early progress at Ipswich Town.

Bonne, who embarked on a loan spell with The Tractors boys in late June, has scored five goals in six League One appearances thus far.

The 25-year-old’s five goals already this season beats last season’s total of three with The R’s, although, the vast majority of his appearances came from the bench.

Since joining the third-tier club, QPR have added another forward to their ranks in Andre Gray, with the Watford forward joining on loan.

Speaking to West London Sport, Warburton addressed Bonne’s start for Ipswich: “I don’t think anyone would say that Lyndon Dykes, Charlie Austin, Andre Gray, and Chris Willock are bad options to have.

“Players need to play. If Macca was here today, for example, and comes off the bench alongside Charlie, Andre, or Lyndon, does he benefit more from being out on loan and playing or by sitting on the bench in the Championship?

“His job is to go out and score goals and he’s doing that, I’m delighted to see him doing that. That’s the idea of a good loan. He goes out and gets pitch time, gets opportunities, and he takes them.

“Every time you move up, it’s a different level, so that was the idea of the loan. I’m happy with the loan and delighted for him. Hopefully, he carries on going.”

The verdict

Despite a great start to life back in League One, Bonne would find himself lower down in the pecking order.

Andre Gray has come in and adds an extra dimension to how QPR operate, whilst Charlie Austin’s game time has been limited in recent weeks.

There is no denying that Bonne is a player who can grow with QPR, but at present, it would be pointless recalling him in January.

If he is able to break the 15, or even 20-goal mark, then he will make a strong case for inclusion next season.
