Coventry City boss Mark Robins is hopeful that midfielder star Gustavo Hamer will be fit to face Huddersfield Town in action this weekend.

Hamer was taken off in the Sky Blues’ 4-2 home defeat to Norwich City at the weekend with a knock, being replaced by Jack Burroughs on the 67th minute mark.

Despite this, though, speaking after the match, Robins said he hoped to have Hamer available for their clash with Huddersfield Town this weekend.

“I didn’t want to take him off because he’s always a threat and always on the front foot, but he took a whack and had a dead leg, and you could see that it affected him and his movement,” Robins explained on his decision to take Hamer off, via CoventryLive.

“And he came off and he wasn’t comfortable, so as long as he gets his ice on it he should be OK.

“He’s in the cryo chamber so hopefully he’ll be fine.

“That will stop any bleeding and mean he can join in training early next week, hopefully Monday [yesterday].”

WHAT YEAR WERE THE CLUB FOUNDED?

After their defeat to Norwich on Saturday, Mark Robins’ side sit 15th in the Championship standings, seven points off the play-off positions.

They do, however, hold one game in hand on most of the teams above them.

The Verdict

Coventry City cannot afford to lose Gustavo Hamer right now.

No doubt Mark Robins will be sweating on his fitness this week.

Coventry’s form of late has been awful, with the Sky Blues going from looking very genuine play-off chasers to hopefuls once again.

The gap to the top six is still small, but the Sky Blues can’t afford to keep dropping points for too long if they’re serious about competing for Premier League promotion in May.
