Huddersfield Town manager Mark Fotheringham has provided an update on the fitness of Michal Helik and Duane Holmes after both picked up knocks recently.

Helik was forced off in the game against QPR after 78 minutes, whereas Holmes missed out on entirely after picking up a calf injury.

Both players are key members of the squad and missing them for a huge fixture against Blackpool on Tuesday would be a huge blow as the Terriers look to claw their way out of relegation trouble.

However, Fotheringham has confirmed that he’s confidence that neither injury is serious and both players should be available for the crunch tie.

Speaking to Yorkshire Live, Fotheringham explained: “Duane had a really tight calf leading into the game and he didn’t make the squad due to that, it was just down to an injury situation. “He’s [Helik] had a knock on his knee, so we just need to see how he is and hopefully he’ll be back as soon as possible.

“We have a lot of good defenders at the moment with Matty Pearson coming back to fitness and also Will Boyle’s been working like an animal in training. He’s just a machine.”

Helik has 21 appearances for Huddersfield this season after his summer move from Barnsley and has hugely important to the side. That’s also the case with Holmes, who has featured on 26 occasions and missing both players against Blackpool could be significant.

The return of Matty Pearson however will be a huge welcome considering his importance to the team last season in the run to the playoffs, should he be fit for the squad.

The Verdict

Missing both Helik and Holmes for the game against Blackpool would be significant.

Both are extremely important, not only in the quality they bring to the team, but also their experience and leadership.

Whilst the Terriers haven’t had much to shout about this season, picking up three points against a relegation rival will push the side forward and having two key players available will be a huge helping in achieving that.
