Mario Götze has admitted he could have taken more time to develop himself, rather than moving to Bayern Munich at the age of 21.
The German midfielder actually agreed to join the German giants from Borussia Dortmund while he was still just 20, back in 2013.
Götze starred for Dortmund in 2010/11 as the club won the Bundesliga. He picked up a second league title, and the DFB Pokal, just a year later while still a teenager.
His third and (then) final season in the Dortmund first team was his best, saw him help the club reach the Champions League final, and saw him agree a deal to join Bayern Munich.
However, speaking to ZDF Sportstudio, Götze confessed that he may have rushed his move to the Allianz Arena.
“I was just 21 at the time and I arrived in a situation where Bayern had just won the treble,” the 2014 World Cup winner admitted.
“I’d learned so much in Dortmund before then.
“In hindsight, maybe I should’ve taken more time for my development, which is something you just don’t get in Munich.”
Götze arrived and played under Pep Guardiola for three seasons, scoring 36 goals in 114 Bayern appearances before making the switch back to Dortmund in 2016.
The playmaker, who has suffered from a serious of medical setbacks, is now in the Netherlands with PSV Eindhoven, where he’s enjoyed a fast start, scoring three times in six games.
