Rashford pipped two-time winner Bruno Fernandes and defender Lisandro Martinez to the award.

The 25-year-old has bagged 30 goals and 11 assists this season – his best scoring campaign in the senior team.

It is the first time Rashford has picked up the award – a reward for a stellar campaign during which he has been the club’s talisman.

The Wythenshawe-born forward won the award after picking up the most fan votes.

The award is a plus for the United youth set-up. It is the first time a player from their academy has won the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award since Ryan Giggs in 1998.

Rashford was also confirmed as the Players’ Player of the Year award earlier today.

The England international has bounced back from a poor 2021/22 campaign in which he scored only five goals in 32 appearances.

He was out of favour with the England national team as manager Gareth Southgate preferred other options.

Rashford missed his penalty in the 2020 European Championship final and was on the receiving end of racist abuse.

However, Rashford returned to pre-season, determined to improve. He admitted that a massive part of his form this season was because he navigated pre-season seamlessly.

Rashford started the season well and carried that impressive form to the 2022 World Cup. He was England’s joint-top scorer with three goals.

He returned from the tournament and continued his red-hot performances, leading the club to success in the League Cup.

Rashford has also helped United reach the final of the FA Cup, where they will face Manchester City. They also secured Champions League football for next season.

He became the first United player to hit 30 goals in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era last weekend, matching Robin van Persie’s 2012/13 tally.
