Marcus Rashford has given supporters an update on how he is enjoying his time in Qatar representing England.

He is one of three Reds representing the Three Lions at the World Cup, along with club captain Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw.

The two defenders started the match whilst the forward took a stint on the bench until late in the second half.

All three United players picked up a goal contribution in the match against Iran, which was a triumphant 6-2 win for England; Maguire and Shaw assisted goals, whereas Rashford netted his first international goal at a major tournament.

It took the 25-year-old only 49 seconds to hit the back of the net after coming on the pitch and he will be hoping to recreate the feeling on Friday when the team take on the United States at 7 pm.

The Carrington graduate sat down with the Three Lions to reflect on the start of the international break. He said: “When you’re on the bench, you’re watching the game and for me, as a forward player, you’re analysing spaces and where you think that you can hurt them.

“I felt we was getting to their centre-halves really quickly and efficiently, so if I could get in that position it was definitely an opportunity to score a goal. I thought the defender kind of overcompensated a little bit, I thought if I take it onside, he didn’t really have much cover, I could get an opportunity to finish an easier chance than if I shoot first time.”

He added: “I feel refreshed and just ready really. I think it comes with just – I’m not playing with any injuries, to be honest, I think that was the first thing.

“I’m just going through the normal process now and yeah, because of that, I’m obviously enjoying playing the games and enjoying training as well. I’m happy right now and I’ll stay happy if we keep winning games.”

I’ve been to a few tournaments and the games come around really quick so, you do have to refocus and start preparation for the next game pretty much straight away.

“But, you know, it’s a challenge and like I mentioned before, we all love challenges and ultimately overcoming challenges.”
