Marcus Rashford wants to be given the chance to establish himself in his favoured role on the left side of attack under new Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag.

The 24-year-old has played in several positions in recent seasons, including on both flanks and in one and two-man strike forces.

Rashford's 2021/22 campaign was his worst to date as a member of the senior squad, registering just five goals in 32 appearances across all competitions and generally looking worse for wear, despite having surgery to correct a shoulder problem last summer.

But Goal report that Rashford is optimistic about his future prospects at Man Utd and is looking forward to working under Ten Hag.

The England international has reached out to Donny van de Beek and former teammate Daley Blind to ask about Ten Hag's methods at Ajax - there have often been suggestions that Rashford has never been taught by a suitable coach in his club career and the player would now prefer to be man-managed properly.

Rashford is also hoping to impress Ten Hag with consistent minutes in his favoured left-sided forward position. Man Utd's other options there include Jadon Sancho, Anthony Elanga and Cristiano Ronaldo. Anthony Martial is also returning to the club following an unsuccessful loan with Sevilla.

Man Utd's first team will reconvene for pre-season training on June 27 ahead of a pre-season tour that will see them jet off to Thailand, Australia and Norway. They open the 2022/23 Premier League campaign at home to Brighton.
